85%
of our electricity
comes from
renewable sources.
The way we see it, good business performance is about more than profits. It's just as important to us to have a positive effect on society, the economy and the wider community as well as the environment. You can discover how seriously we take all of our corporate responsibilities here. While below you can find out how we've reduced our carbon emissions over the last four years by over 40%. In fact, thanks to these initiatives, we are now carbon neutral.
Few air miles
Travel might be part and parcel of the way we do business. But is it always necessary? Are we choosing the most climate-friendly transport? And can't we set ourselves some individual business travel reduction targets? By asking ourselves questions like these - and by investing substantially in phone and video-conferencing - we're aiming to significantly reduce the business miles we clock up each year.
Lower vehicle emissions
Advice on cleaner fuels and greener vehicles, interest-free season ticket loans, a
Cycle to Work scheme plus cycle and shower facilities at many of our offices - all are helping our staff reduce their carbon footprint. We've also teamed up with the CarbonNeutral Company to give our people the chance to make their motoring carbon neutral.
Switching off
We've improved our space efficiency to reduce the heating and lighting we use, conducted energy audits to identify problem areas, installed low-energy lighting and, with help from our people, implemented local energy-saving initiatives. The aim is to improve the carbon efficiency of the buildings we already use and insist on the highest green credentials for those we occupy in the future.
Renewable energy
We now buy 85% of our electricity from renewable sources.
Less waste
Over the past four years we've slashed the amount of waste we send to landfill by almost 80%. Desk-top recycling boxes and local recycling facilities have made a huge difference, as has cutting paper consumption by almost 40% per head.
Carbon offsetting
To offset those carbon emissions we can't avoid, we buy carbon credits. Specifically, we're supporting two projects in Asia that provide local communities with sustainable energy from wind turbines and biomass generators.
Greener graduate recruitment
We've selected a carbon-neutral printer, used 100% recyclable materials wherever possible, and are committed to reducing and offsetting the carbon generated by students and staff travelling to interviews and campus events. Even the hoodies our promotional people will be wearing are 100% organic cotton.
